AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, was killed in February. The Fela in Versace singer was shot and killed outside an eatery on Florida Road in Durban. His friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane was also killed.

Tebello was a chef and media personality who rose to fame an artist manager. He was shot with AKA in Durban on 10 February.

Musician Costa Titch, real name Costa Tsobanoglou, died at age 28. The rapper was performing at the Ultra music festival in Nasrec in Johannesburg when he collapsed and later died.

Having lived with epilepsy for years, the renowned journalist, author and political analyst met his untimely death resulting from a seizure on 30 May. He was 45 years old at the time of his death. His death shocked many in the media industry. Three hours before his death, Eusebius was celebrating Musa Motha who had danced his way into the hearts of Britain’s Got Talent’s viewers.

If you hadn’t fallen in love with him on Shaka Zulu as Mdluli or on Sarafina as Victor Gumede then you probably hated loving him on Yizo Yizo as the very stern and strict principal, Mr Mthembu or on Zone 14 where he played the owner of a funeral parlour, Sizwe Moloi, fondly known as Ntate Moloi as well. The veteran actor died at the age of 85 on 31 May due to natural causes.

Zoleka Mandela 

After battling cancer for the second time, and taking her followers with her on the journey, the author died on Monday, 25 September. Recent scans revealed that the cancer had spread to other parts of her body. She also had fibrosis in the lungs.

Ever since his passing on 30 January, the king of Barcadi’s legacy has flourished. Barcadi, as a genre, has grown outside the bounds of Pretoria and even Gauteng with the distinct sound making it on mainstream platforms with songs like Bhebha topping trends and charts. Vusi, real name Itumeleng Mosoeu was gunned down at a pub in Soshanguve aged 34.
